Pinching pennies 'til payday? Or just looking for something new this lunch hour? Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, presents "The $5 Lunch Challenge."
This week we asked Andrea, a Milwaukee Downtown Public Service Ambassador, to find lunch for under $5. Is it possible? And how. Check out this week's challenge winner.
Chinese and Thai Hot Café
315 E. Wisconsin Ave.
(414) 271-3333
The lunch special at the Chinese and Thai Hot Café is a no-brainer. For just $4.72, you get your choice of any two items on the menu (served together on one plate), a large beverage, almond and fortune cookie. Try Chinese and Thai favorites like spicy peanut chicken, beef and broccoli, curry chicken, egg foo young, fried rice and more.
Each weekday, downtown diners can choose the daily special. Monday, try the pad Thai or Szchuan chicken. Tuesday, specials are spicy chicken bamboo and lomein chicken. Sesame chicken and pad Thai are served on Wednesday. Thursday, try spicy bean thread or Singapore noodle. And Friday, choose the spicy chicken cabbage or orange chicken. All specials are $3.25 for a half plate and $4.50 for a plate.
There is even free delivery ($20 minimum).
