A new soul food restaurant opened on Milwaukee's Northwest Side called Mama's Best Soul Food. Meals are available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, either dine-in or carry-out.
Mama's Best Soul Food specializes in breakfast, which is served all day. The breakfast menu features grits, oatmeal, eggs, pancakes, American potatoes, bacon, turkey bacon and more.
Daily lunch and dinner specials include turkey and ham on Sundays, chicken on Tuesdays, spaghetti on Wednesdays, pork ribs and pork chops on Thursday, fish on Fridays and steak on Saturdays. All meals come with a choice of side dishes, which rotate but usually include potato salad, cole slaw, green beans or mac 'n' cheese.

As far as collards go, the BEST in the city are at African Hut on Old World Third St. Peppery, spicy, and totally delicious (they are available in a vegetarian version, which is what we have) Ethiopian Cottage on Farwell also has them, but they are steamed, bot stewed like African Hut.

I am looking for some good collard, mustard, or turnip greens. No place has them as sides and the best I can do is make them from scratch at home or buy the canned kind.

This would actually be Milwaukee's WEST side. Washington Heights is not on the north side.
