Pepe's Pink Taco will take over the high-profile space, 2014 N. Farwell Ave., that formerly housed Sol Fire restaurant.

Cecil McGraw, director of operations, says the Mexican bar and restaurant opens in mid-July. The remodeled space will include a larger kitchen and a 40-ft. deck attached to the North side of the building.

"We're in this for the long haul, and are doing everything we can to assure this isn't a fly-by-night venture," says McGraw. "We want to be what La Casita was 15 years ago."

The Ibarra brothers, owners of CO2 Ultra Lounge, also own Pepe's.

Pepe's Pink Taco has no connection to the Scottsdale, Ariz. eatery called The Pink Taco. Scottsdale Mayor Mary Manross was put off by the suggestive name, a slang term for vagina, and asked its owner to change it.

McGraw knows the name might offend some Milwaukeeans, but believes most people will find it humorous.

"We didn't want to call our Mexican restaurant 'el' this or 'la' that like all of the other Mexican restaurants in town, so we chose something that was more fun," says McGraw.

Pepe's Pink Taco's one-page menu focuses on simple, quality, affordable meals and tasty beverages.

Stay tuned to OMC for more information about Pepe's Pink Taco in the near future.
