Pinching pennies til payday? Or just looking for something new this lunch hour? Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, presents "The $5 Lunch Challenge."
This week we asked George, a Milwaukee Downtown Public Service Ambassador, to find lunch for under $5. Is it possible? And how. Check out this week's challenge winner.
Real Chili
419 E. Wells St.
(414) 271-4042
Established in 1931, Real Chili is truly part of the Milwaukee experience and a great place to pick up a quick (and very hot) lunch. Their specialty, chili of course, comes in three varieties: spaghetti and beans, spaghetti only or beans only. After you choose the variety, decide whether you want mild, medium or hot chili. Beware -- when they say hot, they mean it.
Prices are $3.93 for a single mild or medium, $7.66 for a double mild or medium, $4.78 for a single hot and $9.36 for a double hot. Make your chili really delicious with "Mixins," like sour cream, cheese and onions, for a few extra coins.
Not in the mood for chili? $3.40 gets you your choice of a ham and provolone, turkey and provolone or tuna sub. Get soft-shell tacos for $1.49 a piece. Grab a hot dog for $1.75, polish sausage for $2.34 or a chili dog for $2.40. Burgers and salads are also available.
Eat in or carry out.
