Rey Sol, the Spanish restaurant at 2338 W. Forest Home Ave., owned by the Mendieta family (daughter Citlali owns Antigua Latin Restaurant in West Allis), isn't closed for good, as some savvy readers have recently noted.
Rather, according to a hostess at Antigua, it's closed for remodeling and construction and will open, she says, before the end of the year.
Stay tuned for additional details as we get them.

Rey Sol, a popular Mexican restaurant that closed recently on Milwaukee's south side, plans to reopen in the Walker's Point area, a developer said today. Rey Sol is finalizing details on a lease at Castings Point, a new office and retail building at 140 S. 1st St., building owner Tim Dixon said today. Rey Sol, which had operated at 2338 W. Forest Home Ave., plans to lease around 4,000 square feet, Dixon said. Castings Point's other tenants include the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, Maritime Savings Bank and an upcoming bar. It was built on the site of the former Kramer International Inc. foundry site.

Interesting article but there is a sign on the restaurant marquee that says "Restaurant For Lease".

Probably six months ago some friends and I went to have dinner at Rey Sol and they were closed. There was no sign, but it was Friday night, so we figured something was up. We went to Antigua instead, and the waitress told us that the family was tired of "the neighborhood" and planning to relocate somewhere in the Third Ward. So much time has passed with nothing happening, I've wondered what is going on. Rey Sol was one of my favorite Mexican places in the city, so I hope they reappear somewhere soon.
