Scardina Specialties brings Italian deli to Riverwest

Peter and Maria Scardina have opened an Italian deli bearing their name in the heart of Riverwest.

Scardina Specialties opened at 822 E. Chambers St., between Fratney and Bremen, at the end of July. The shop dishes up delicacies like spiedini, meatball sandwiches and homemade sausage alongside sweets like cannoli and a lot more, too.

The deli is open weekdays from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m., Saturdays from 8 until 5 and Sundays from 8 until 1. Call them at (414) 395-3369 and find them on Facebook, too.

Any mention of closing the shop @ 60th & Beloit? It's been pretty sparse in there for quite some time. (I'm assuming it's the same owners...)

Antonio's Pizza

On my many visits to the east side, I`ve driven past the intersection of Weil and Locust. I`ve noticed a pizzeria there before, but a few months ago, I noticed a name change. Antonio "Tony" Balsamo opened Antonio`s Pizza, 1000 E. Locust St., around two months ago. I decided to stop in and see if he had the perfect pizza for me.

Restaurants in East Tosa

While Whitefish Bay is blossoming with an array of new businesses and restaurants, the eastern portion of Wauwatosa is becoming a similar hotbed of development and change.

Runaway Meatball

Runaway Meatball, a Sicilian-style take-out restaurant, will open soon at 3590 N. Oakland Ave. in the former Mama Mia`s location.

Front Street

For a variety of reasons, I`ve been thinking about Front Street, which now seems so ironically named, fronting as it does onto nothing and serving as the ultimate definition of a Milwaukee "backstreet." In my mind, I see something much different that can be seen on the block today.
