Suburpia, a bit of a Milwaukee sandwich legend, opened a new location in Downtown Milwaukee this week at 612 N. Water St., site of a former Erbert & Gerbert's.

The brand now has four stores in the area, although there's an ongoing legal fight for the name and rights.

The local chain had nearly 20 locations in the 1970s and '80s before it reemerged in the city on the East Side at 2264 N. Prospect in 2007.

William J. Foley founded Suburpia in the late 1960s, but sold it in the early 1980s.  In 2005, he began to bring back the sandwich brand with a location at 10853 W. Blue Mound Rd. in Wauwatosa and soon after at 116 E. Layton Ave.

The new Downtown location opened Wednesday.
