From zero to two in less than two weeks. No, it's not a yet a hotbed of Mexican cuisine, but the Historic Third Ward has another new taco offering as Broadway Bar and Bistro has transformed into Taco de Bajo at 241 N. Broadway. Just last week, MP (Margarita Paradise) opened inside the Milwaukee Public Market.
Veteran Milwaukee restaurateurs Joe Schulte, and his wife, Tesa Santoro opened their latest creation last weekend. The couple also owns Cool Water Bar and Grill and Gourmet-to-Go Catering.
I haven't eaten there yet, but Santoro told me this via e-mail, "We opened very softly on Saturday and so far we have had a very positive response from the customers that have come in. The idea is a simple menu with everything made from scratch- just as we offer in our other restaurants and catering. All salsas, guacamole, soups, etc. are made from scratch. And we hand squeeze lemons, limes and grapefruit for some amazing margaritas -- no mixes are used. We have also kept the menu very affordable with all items under $10. Currently we are open for lunch Monday-Saturday but if things go well then we will expand our hours to a few evenings as well. You can sit inside or out and we offer carryout/delivery as well."
I love Mexican food, so Taco de Bajo is welcome addition. I can't wait to try it. By the way, Broadway Bakery continues to be open daily, along side Taco De Bajo.

I am totally not surprised by the comments so far. The bistro was terribly overpriced and the service was awful, and I'm sure this will be no different. Plus, Tesa Santoro is possibly the worst manager I have ever witnessed. Very rude.

I just went here for lunch today and was totally not impressed. It is basically an extension of Broadway Bistro and the food was definitely not worth the cost.

Hope they got their liquor license squared away before opening. Tried to satisfy a margarita craving from MP last Friday and was terribly disappointed (after waiting 5 minutes to be helped) to find out they can't serve booze yet.
