Whether or not the restaurant will reopen is at this point unknown.

Stick a fork in The Rafters?

The Rafters Steakhouse, 7228 S. 27th St., anounced on its Web site last spring that they would close for the summer and reopen on Sept. 7, 2010. The iconic, old school steak house did not reopen, and now customers are wondering if The Rafters Steakhouse is closed for good.

"It's just not certain at this point if The Rafters will reopen," said Barbara Wesener, the executive director of the South Suburban Chamber of Commerce.

A sign taped to the door reads, "Due to a family emergency reopening has been delayed. We apologize for the inconvenience." The bar / restaurant's phone number is listed, but disconnects after a few rings.

I received a refund from restaurant.com for The Rafters recently. I had tried calling and heard a message that they were taking reservations for holiday parties and catering, but not dinner. After repeated attempts, the message changed to "voicemail inbox is full". Since my coupon was about to expire, I decided to get the coupon refunded. I did notice, however, that they are still offering restaurant.com coupons on their most recent list of offerings.

This place had awesome steak, however, it's quite a way off the beaten path.

This was Frank Sinatra's favorite place to stop when ever he came to Milwaukee...He was pretty good friends with Franky D. the owner.
