It's kids and family week here at OnMilwaukee.com and, more than ever, we'll feature articles and blogs about children's health, education, travel, fun and more. Kids and family week is brought to you by Aurora Health Care.

Beginning at 9 a.m. on June 17, the Thiensville Village Market will celebrate the opening day of the farmer’s market season in a new location with new programming.

This family friendly open air market, located at Village Park on the Milwaukee River, 250 Elm St., features over 70 vendors from across Wisconsin on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from June 17 to Oct. 28.

"I am particularly excited about the new layout for the vendors this year," says Market Manager Jesse Daily. "We have moved our all-day vendors into the grass and have strategically placed our half-day vendors in the south parking lot, freeing up ample parking for our customers who come in the later afternoon."

And thanks to a brand new wellness initiative and focus on children’s programming, the market will be sponsoring a variety of new features including:

  • Free pilates classes in the park from 9 to 9:30 a.m.
  • Tennis lessons
  • Weekly story time with the Weyenberg Library

Additionally, on Aug. 12 the market will sponsor a Children’s Day featuring child-focused entertainment, visits form local mascots and a scavenger hunt at the market. A Best "Dam" Junior Chef competition will also be featured, with special prizes for the winning team.

The food court, Daily notes, will feature eight hot food vendors in and around the pavilions in the park, is the perfect place to enjoy lunch or dinner while enjoying live music in a brand new entertainment tent.

Opening day events on June 17 include Pilates in the Park from 9 to 9:30 a.m., Library in the Park from 11 to 11:30 a.m., and live music from Life in a Tree, an alternative rock band is made up of five teenagers from Grafton and Homestead High Schools, will perform from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the food court.
