Video of the Day: The Domino's dilemma
The PR people at Domino's are earning their money this week.
By OnMilwaukee.com Staff Writers

What is a blog? For us it is a short blurb that we write when the mood strikes us. It can be first person, funny or informative. In short, a blog is whatever we want it to be. Published April 16, 2009 at 10:40 a.m.

You've probably heard the old Hollywood adage that "any publicity is good publicity."

Try telling that to the folks at Domino's Pizza.

The chain has been in public relations crisis mode after two employees at a North Carolina location posted a YouTube video that depicted them doing unsanitary and downright disgusting things with food. The employees -- identified as Kristy and Michael, claim they did the video as a joke. They have been fired.

"We are appalled by the actions of these individuals and they do not represent the 125,000 hard-working men and women of Domino's Pizza across the country and in 60 countries around the world," the company said in a press release.

The blogosphere has been buzzing about the incident and the video is climbing toward 1 million hits.

Check it out, but be advised that it might make you want to miss lunch.

Here is the corporate response:

I can't tell from the video what he actually did or didnt do? Was he feigning it or actually doing it? The video doesnt show it going out on delivery and somebody eating it is that what even happened? How can you let one or two persons action at one place make you feel uncomfortable about eating at one of the thousands of other locations? Maybe they didn't like their jobs and this was a quick revenge or maybe they realized how viral it would be and wanted fame. This is something being made about nothing. It's ridiculous to think this is a Domino specific issue. It could happen ANYWHERE. There are good managers and workers at some Dominos believe it or not and there are horrible workers and managers at some trendy "gourmet" places or family owned as well. People who are shocked by this are extremely naive. Haven't you ever worked in a restaurant or known somebody who has? Long gone are the denizens of eager teenage kids who do their best even though they only make a mininum wage at a job they will only work for a month with no real chance for advancement. Welcome the era of disrespectful kids who grew up on the internet, jerry springer, and eminem. It's almost as if this generations loss of innocence effects the quality of our drive-thrus and pizza delivery. Our kids just aren't down for the exploitive wages of franchise and fast food anymore. They don't feel they have a respectful job or wage so they don't feel they have to give respect to their jobs. Why? Get fired just head down to Pizza Hut. Get fired there head down to Papa Johns. Do you blame them? I don't. I blame the greedy corporations themselves and the lazy sit back and watch your dump make you rich Franchise owners and operators who allow for this type of thing by not being on top of things. Don't give me the don't take the job if you don't want to do it right crap because that is a dated ideal against all modern reality. Where we see a sense of entitlement they see survival. I personally made food as if it was for myself everytime I ever worked in a kitchen but I don't blame those who cut corners. I wouldn't do anything nasty to anyones food even if I didn't like them just as a certain etiquette like nazi's and yanks celebrating xmas in WII together. You just dont fight war on Christmas and you just don't mess with peoples food. LOL Sorry for that analogy. I wish everyone would have a basic respect for food and others but they don't. That's not reality anymore. THE REALITY IS EVERY OTHER FRANCHISE IS LIKE THIS NOWADAYS. EXCEPT for one! The Domino's closest to me is infinitely better than the Pizza Hut. As a matter of fact the Domino's round here is ran flawlessly I ordered online its prepared immediately I track it online its here hot fresh picture perfect made with care not slopped together and no signs of spit. Pizza Hut always trys to keep business slow by falsely telling people 2 hour delivery time so they hang up, they never have half of the things on the menu they should have and they usually can't take the order right make it right or get it to me right. Dominos has a bunch of relatively new pizzas that are better than the regulars. They are called the American Legends and the best ones are the FIERY HAWAIIAN--Made with sliced ham, smoked bacon, pineapple, roasted red peppers, jalapenos, Tabasco, provolone cheese, mozzarella cheese on a cheesy parmesan crust. Or the BUFFALO CHICKEN is good too Made with chicken breast, Buffalo Hot Sauce, onions and parsley with provolone and American cheeses on a cheesy cheddar crust. I could name plenty of family owned or Italian Restaraunts with better pizza but if you haven't had Dominos in a while try one of those if done right they are good. ANOTHER THING! I can't figure out why Burger King here is nasty and poorly run same as Pizza Hut (the ones owned by VJ HOLDING are horrible) but if you go to the Dell's its entirely better same thing in GREEN BAY, APPLETON. Can't figure it out. I've heard of people moving north in search of a place like what Northridge, Grand Avenue, or Southridge USED TO BE LIKE and finding it. Could it be far north of this wasteland called Milwaukee there still is a fertile franchise fast food paradise where lunch lady looking motherly types run the drive thrus and don't resent lifting a finger for other people or being nice even if it doesnt make them rich or really get them anything but maybe a smile? Don't forget to blame the clientele as well. As we all know on the Northside of Milwaukee there is plenty of areas that you can't get pizza delivered and for good reason. A whole generation of people taught by their parents and their culture to get free meals by complaining, tip nothing, walk out on bills, and act like a McDonald's is a Friday's and Friday's is some expensive Steakhouse. It seems like they paranoidly feel if they don't do this someone's getting one over on them instead. Actually more than anyone... I blame these type of people the most for the downfall of fast food and franchise quality. Just look at what happened to Northridge. Walk outs, complaints to get free meals ruined every sit down restaurant short of Denny's and now when I go there I see people whining about their slams trying to get comped as they laugh about it when the watiress walks away. Hello America are we still proud? P.S. I wrote this before watching the official Dominos Response! Felony warrants? For faking messing with food? Indeed something out of nothing. They got their 15 mintues I hope they dont get 15 years! GEESH! Total WITCH HUNT! Just realize the people and places that actually are spitting in your food don't film it in and put it on youtube!

Obviously many people eat at Domino's. What truly disgusts me is the lack of any thought from these two - this company employed them, paid them for work done - and this is what they decide to put out about the company for which they work?? People, get a clue. If you don't like the company for which you work, quit. But pulling something like this? Get a clue. THAT attitude is disgusting. The video isn't funny, they two kids aren't funny. They aren't cool.
