Watts Tea Room is known as a Milwaukee landmark, but now it's an American Classic.

Watts Tea Room accepts Beard Award tonight

When the James Beard Foundation announced its 2011 America's Classic Award winners, Milwaukee's historic tea room made the cut.

Watts Tea Room's Chef Jason Stevens and George Watts CEO Sam Watts will accept the award tonight in New York City.

The local eatery and tea room is one of just five restaurants honored as the foundation's America's Classics Restaurants this year.

The Watts Tea Room, located on the second floor above the George Watts tea and crystal shop, has been a fine dining and tea landmark in Milwaukee since the mid-1920s.

The list of restaurant and chef semifinalists were announced today for the 2012 James Beard Foundation Awards, the nation`s most prestigious recognition program honoring professionals in the North American food and beverage industries. Semifinalists for this year`s awards were chosen from 28,000 online nominations, and Wisconsin-area restaurants and chefs were nominated in three categories including Best Chef in the Midwest, Outstanding Bar Program and Outstanding Wine Program.
