This Milwaukee coffee made Zagat's "United States of Caffeine"
Milwaukee brews some great coffee. From Alterra to Anodyne and Stone Creek Coffee to Valentine and more, we're blessed with some great beans, great local ownership and quality places to sip our joe.
Zagat's new list called "The United States of Caffeine 50 States, 50 Must-Try Coffee Shops," toasts the coffee culture in our country but only one local roaster makes the grade.
Alterra Coffee was selected as the Wisconsin representative and Zagat says this about Alterra, "This coffee shop and roasting plant opened in Milwaukee in 1994, after the owners, three friends with a hankering for good joe, decided their city needed quality coffee. It helps that they also strove to make sure their beans had a level of sustainability and were fairly gained from growers; plus, many of their blends are Rainforest Alliance certified and organic. Now, Alterra has expanded its operation to over a dozen cafes, each serving the freshly roasted, high-quality coffees that made them popular to begin with."
