Good times in Riverwest! The food was really cheap, good stuff. Went for dollar taco night and the place was bizzy! Their tequila selection is pretty insane- I felt like doing the tequila dance like pee-wee herman, lol. Waitstaff was pretty cool, we had a cute waitress. If you are into cheap Mexican and margaritas check it!

I've dined at or had carry-out from all of the usual suspects in Milwaukee's Mexican dining scene, many times, for more than 25 years. Rio West is a great addition and it's a step above in many ways. It's CLEAN and pleasantly decorated. (Look around some of the other places in the daylight.) I love tequila and it's got a huge selection. For anyone north of the Third Ward, it's a much better choice than the usual south side line-up. The portions are generous and the food is fresh. I've been there 4 times and always had great service. Last night, I had carry-out. When I called in, I told them I was coming from out of town and was about 20 minutes away. The cook told me he'd time my order so it was fresh when I got there and that's exactly what he did. I asked to add chips and salsa to my order and he told me that was included with carry-outs. At the other place I used to go to on Monday nights, a half-order of chips and salsa was $3.95 and I would have to practically beg the bartender for a bottle of beer. He was consistently grumpy, even though I ALWAYS left him a buck for his 3 seconds of work. At Rio West, the bartender was friendly and prompt, not pretending like he had more important things to do. Here's what I got at Rio West that I didn't get at those other places: 1) a clean place, 2) friendly service from the bartender, 3) bigger portions, 4) fresh carry-out that wasn't soggy by the time I got home, 5) free chips and salsa with my carry-out, 6) more money in my pocket.

Rio West Cantina is horrific. Please close down. It is a waste of space. It would do better business as a parking lot. The food is just awful. Everything is microwaved. The staff is incompetent - especially that manager Jesus. He is Mexican! Fix the menu, man! I would not recommend anyone try Rio West Cantina. The reviews are true and on target. It would be a waste of time and money.

It is quite obvious when reading the review that the owner, Russ, wrote the darn thing. Spelling Rio West incorrectly was a good touch. It made it almost believable. And what happened to all of the other reviews telling what Rio West is really like: almost every entree is microwaved, the vegan entrees are not truly vegan, the rice tastes like chicken, and the chicken and beef are extremely salty (nothing fresh is that salty so claiming to have such fresh ingredients is quite misleading). In addition, the manager is quite inexperienced. The restaurant is an utter disappointment. I make better mexican cuisine at home. I'll be happy to give you tips if interested. Are you going to erase this talkback too, Russ?

We have been going to Reo West since day one and we are happy it is here in Riverwest. We stop in a few times a week and the great staff knows us by name and are always pleased to see us. I asked about the unique name and the owner, Russ, said he wanted to blend the Spanish with American names to pay homage to our great neighborhood but still say, here is something different. I thought that was very cool! We were told that they were keeping there menu small for now because they wanted to really perfect their offerings of typical Mexican food as well as their Vegan offerings. They even have a kids menu as well as a separate play room for kids. How very thoughtful! We find the taste interestingly different from the South 5th street big boys, and always fresh. The service has been great and fast, almost too fast but that is typical, it would seem, in all these Mexican places. They have had specials from time to time and those specials were unique things that we never had before. Oh, and tasty too! The tequila bar has so many different tequilas I could not count them. If you want there is a Tequila club you can join to get free gifts by trying all those different brands. Oh and you get your own glass that you can decorate too and keep there for your drinking pleasure. Great Idea! Buena Idea (EDAYA) We love the place and cant wait for those hot summer night with nothing to do but walk a few blocks to Riverwests own Mexican restaurant and drink great Margaritas on their patio
