In search of the perfect pizza: Aldo's Pizza and Pub
After visiting a client in Germantown, I drove past a strip mall and noticed a sign with "Aldo's" on it. My mind immediately flashed back to my childhood and wondered if this place was related in any way to the Aldo's I enjoyed in Riverwest many moons ago. I vowed to return, and around six months later, I did.
Buckley's story is pure small-town Milwaukee
We all know that Milwaukee has hopes of growing and becoming a major metropolitan center. But as we think of things to sell, we may well want to consider what a small town this city is. The truth was driven home over the weekend when my wife and I had a wonderful dinner at Buckley's, a great restaurant on Cass Street Downtown.
New Brazilian steakhouse opening Downtown
According to a sign on the door, Rodizio Grill will open in Milwaukee at 777 N. Water St. - the former Sabor space - on Thursday, Dec. 6. The chain of Brazilian steakhouses features 11 other restaurants, but this is the first Wisconsin-based location.

In search of the perfect pizza: Marco's Pizza
Marco's "World Famous" Pizza, 6234 S. 27th St., started in 1959. The first time I noticed Marco's Pizza was over 10 years ago, when I used to shoot pool at Romine's. One of my best friends lives near the South 27th Street location and orders from them often. He's a big fan of the sauce and recommended I give their pizza a try.

On second thought...
I want to clear up something I wrote in a recent blog. I asked OnMilwaukee.com to take it down, but they told me that we don't rewrite history, that once it's out there, it's out there. So, instead, I offer this.
A rare, disappointing meal at Eddie Martini's
Eddie Martini's has long been one of my favorite special-occasion restaurants. It has always featured great steaks, wonderful atmosphere and service that I think is unmatched in this city. That's why I'm so surprised at the dinner I had there Friday night.
Finding fish - and more - at The Eatery on Farwell
The kitchen at The Eatery on Farwell, 2014 N. Farwell Ave., has such long hours that it can really boast something for almost everyone, and at almost any time of day. The restaurant opens at 8 a.m. and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. I stopped in on a Friday, of course, so I could try the fish fry.

In search of the perfect pizza: Mini's
When I need to get Downtown from Brown Deer after work without risking congestion on I-43, I like taking Highway 57 and following it onto Green Bay Avenue. Traffic moves well, and I get to find different places to eat like Mini's, 6343 N. Green Bay Ave. The "homemade pizza" sign got my attention. It always does.
Port of Call shows its hometown pride
If Byron Kilbourn is going to watch me eat lunch, I wish he'd at least try to look a little happier. Amid the maritime decor adorning the interior of Port of Call Bistro and Beer Garden, 106 W. Wells St., hangs a stern portrait of Kilbourn, who founded his Kilbourntown west of the river. His face reminds us we're in HIS Milwaukee and the menu at Port of Call keeps reminding diners they're in Brew City, too.
Tazinos is open Downtown
St. Francis-based Tazinos opened its fourth location today in the City Center 735 building at 735 N. Water St., and by 11:30 a.m., the place was hopping, with a line of customers snaking out the door and into the City Center lobby.

On the hunt for panini: Waterfront Deli
Now that our office is Downtown, I'm checking out some new-to-me places for lunch and revisiting some old noon-hour friends, too. Today, I walked across the street to see if Waterfront Deli, 761 N. Water St., could satisfy my yen for a prosciutto panino.
In search of the perfect pizza: Fratelli's
West Allis seems to have quite the abundance of pizzerias. Fratelli's, 6202 W. Lincoln Ave., is another I found in the Entertainment Book.

How can I get potlucky?
I love a potluck. I love the word. I love the concept. I love (most of) the food. However, I am running out of ideas for dishes to bring. One can only make so many taco dips.
This editor's restaurant choices
For each of the 50 categories in the annual OnMilwaukee.com Best of Milwaukee Dining poll, we, as a team select our "editors' choice." Many of them I agree with, and some I don't. But in the spirit of democracy, I don't refute any of them. In some categories, I have very real favorites ...
In search of the perfect pizza: Pepi's Pizza
I own one of those Entertainment Books that expires next week, so I thought this would be a good time to start using it. As I paged through the pseudo pizzeria section, I noticed Pepi's Pizza had a coupon in there. It seemed like as good a time as any to try them out.
