Runaway Meatball, a Sicilian-style take-out restaurant, will open soon at 3590 N. Oakland Ave. in the former Mama Mia's location.
2. In search of the perfect pizza: Pietro's Pizza
The story of Pietro's starts with Filippo Tarantino who worked as a baker in Sicily and moved to the United States in 1959. He found his way to Milwaukee and worked for Grebe's Bakery until 1973 when he accumulated enough savings to open Pietro's Pizza, named after one of his sons.
3. Eateries sprouting up everywhere in Whitefish Bay
Whitefish Bay is suddenly the place to be when it comes to new places to dine.
4. Let's split it
There's been a lot of travel in our family since March, which means the fridge is more of a barren cavern than stocked with it's usual bounty of healthy fare. So, by default and out of admitted laziness, we've been enjoying more meals "out," than are typical for us. So, how are we avoiding the major ouch in our pocketbook and around our waistlines? Well, we're splitting entrees.
5. Angelic Bakehouse breaks ground in Cudahy
Angelic Bakehouse will break ground at the site of its new $2.3 million production facility in Cudahy tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.

8. Fish fry: Double Eagle Pub
"One of Milwaukee's best kept secrets ... if you can find the Double Eagle Pub, you will enjoy the Double Eagle Pub!"
9. In search of the perfect pizza: Filippo's
Filippo's Italian Restaurant, 6915 W. Lincoln Ave., is one of the many pizzerias on Lincoln Avenue that I've alluded to in past blogs. Several people have been asking when I was going to visit Filippo's, so I stopped in on a slow night to try the sausage, mushroom and onion on thin crust and a sausage and pepperoni on the regular hand-tossed pizza.
10. Atlas BBQ looks promising
Atlas BBQ opened at the end of 2012 and features the tagline "Beer. Bourbon. Barbecue." Located inside the Paramount Plaza in Grafton, Atlas offers food and sauces made from scratch.

Black Sheep, 216 S. 2nd St., in Walker's Point, will open late this summer. The bar will offer small plates, cocktails, beer and a self-dispensing system offering a dozen wines.
15. In search of the perfect pizza: Bobbana's Pizza
Five years ago, Manual Castellanos, Jr. was looking for a new opportunity after working as an auto worker at a GM plant. He found Bobanna's for sale so he and his family made the purchase. I decided to stop in and check out the Hawaiian pizza and Meat Lovers pizza.

17. Pita Pit to hopefully open soon
It's not a done deal, but it looks like a Pita Pit will open on Farwell Avenue. Signs are in the window and Meghan Bertram, the pre-opening coordinator for Pita Pit, says it's likely one will open this summer.

18. Northpoint Custard opens May 18
We all scream for ice cream - or, custard, that is. Bartolotta Restaurants plans to open its Northpoint Custard stand for the season on May 18.
19. In search of the perfect pizza: Gianelli's
The Bonanza Shopping Center is not even a glimmer of what it once was, but Gianelli's Pizza and Chicken Man are doing their best to keep some life in the building, and I think they're doing a good job. They blew me away with the texture and sweetness of their handmade sauce - and did I mention there were strips of bacon on my pizza?
20. Zelicious opens in Shops of Grand Avenue

24. In search of the perfect pizza: Ferrante's
In 1938, newlyweds Rosalie and Alex Ferrante established the first Ferrante's Restaurant in central Milwaukee. A friend and I decided to check out the popular restaurant opened by their kids in Mequon, and we were pleasantly surprised by a Texas Ranch Pizza.
25. Hop on board the pineapple express
Current trends in nutrition preach the benefits of eating a seasonal diet in accordance with where you live. Eating papaya in February in Wisconsin doesn't exactly jibe with this. But, sometimes cravings win out. In complete rebellion against seasonal or local eating, I have been indulging in some major pineapple action.
