Even in the days before modern TV news, a 6-year-old boy said to be stuck in a balloon would be a news story.
Back in 1987, Jessica McClure was a national obsession when the 18-month-old fell into a well in Midland, Texas.
But TV's technical abilities transform such bizarre events into national obsessions.
If you can believe the chatter on Twitter, countless Americans switched on their TVs this afternoon to watch the muffin-shaped mylar balloon floating over the Colorado countryside, finally landing at about 2:35 this afternoon, with no word on the boy's whereabouts.
And now there are reports that the family involved in this balloon drama was on ABC's "Wife Swap" last year.
UPDATE: The boy was found safe hiding in either the family's garage or attic (depending which version of the story is true) Thursday afternoon.
Of course he was.

I can't believe TV news stations actually fell for this and now that they have been duped, they are trying to play it off as they didn't get fooled. As soon as I heard this my BS detector went off and then when they mentioned they were shooting a reality TV show at the same house I knew it was a stunt. Shame on the TV news stations for printing and believing everything they hear.
