Summer Sizzle goes on hiatus

The Historic Third Ward Jazz Festival: Summer Sizzle, hosted by the Historic Third Ward Association, Inc., will not take place this year.

The plan is for the festival, which was scheduled to be held on Aug. 2-3, to return in the future, but because of the high volume of neighborhood activity around the same time – including the Third Ward Art Festival and the Harley Davidson 110th Reunion – it will go on hiatus this year.

The decision was also based on the fact construction of the new Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design student apartments will be in full swing on Menomonee and Erie Streets, near the festival site.

"We're appreciative to our long time sponsors and many other supporters and festival goers," said Nancy O'Keefe, executive director of the Historic Third Ward Association.

September will also bring the closing of the St. Paul Avenue Bridge for reconstruction, the rebuilding of I-794 along St. Paul Avenue and the construction of the new hotel on Broadway and Chicago Street.

"It is a busy, exciting and challenging time for the Historic Third Ward district," says O'Keefe.
