{image1}Doesn't it seem appropriate that a woman name "Shanel" is both beautiful and artistically talented? Such is the case with Shanel Regier, an up-and-coming fashion sculptor who was born and raised in Madrid, Nebraska, but traveled east to attend the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design in 1999.

Since then, Regier has enjoyed a fiesta of local and national successes. In February 2003, she was invited to design clothing to benefit Gilda's Club, a foundation for cancer survivors, and she also produced two shows at local restaurant Sauce. Most recently, Regier was invited to show her collection in Mode, a fashion show and AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin benefit at Trocadero.

On Sun., March 28, models don Regier's latest collection of vintage-inspired costumes at Tangerine, 729 N. Milwaukee St. Called "Aflamencar," this line was inspired by the seductive rhythm and flair of flamenco.

"'Aflamencar' is the Spanish word used to describe the interpretation of non-flamenco songs or dances to the rhythm and tune of flamenco. Loosely applied to this show, it expresses how I intend to render my creations based upon my interpretation of Spanish flamenco," she says.

In this new collection, Regier experiments with ruffles and flowers while staying true to her signature colors of back, red and white. James Kloiber, of Rockstar Design, created painted fabric for some of her pieces and Beauty Salon stylists will conjure a sensual look for hair and makeup. Local flamenco guitarists Evan Christian and Ian Catling will perform throughout the event.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for cocktails and dessert, and the show begins at 8 p.m. There is a $10 cover.

Local sponsors for this event are Beauty Salons, Cieslik Celek Interior Design and Tangerine.
