Deadline approaches for State Fair's first poster contest
State Fair is currently on the lookout for unique posters to compete in its first Wisconsin Fairtastic Poster Competition. The goal of the competition is to engage and celebrate artists from across the state, as well as showcase their impressive work during the 2014 State Fair.
Interested Wisconsin artists aged 18 and older need to submit a first draft sketch of their poster, along with a portfolio of additional existing items to be considered by the judges. The poster should reflect "the Wisconsin State Fair experience," which is up to each artist's individual interpretation.
The artists with the top four submissions will each be granted a $400 stipend to complete a second draft of their design. Then, on June 11, the winning poster will be announced. The final design will be displayed throughout the State Fair, as well as featured on a commemorative poster available for purchase online and at the fair. All proceeds will go toward the Wisconsin State Fair Park Foundation.
The winning artist will also come away with a $1,000 cash prize, which, by our math, is a lot of cream puffs.
Submissions for the poster competition are due by Tuesday, Feb. 4 by 4 p.m. For more information on the contest, visit the State Fair's website.
The 2014 Wisconsin State Fair runs from July 31 through Aug. 10.
