Time Warner digital subscribers will have to learn a new channel lineup come October. |

Consider this an early warning, but Time Warner Cable, the area's biggest TV programming provider, has released its new digital channel lineup -- which will go into effect in October 13 for subscribers in southeast Wisconsin.
Only digital channels 100 and above are affected in this attempt to organize offerings by themes.
For example, kids' channels will be between 101 and 117, premium channels will be in the 600s and HD channels will start at 1004, with Channel 4's HD signal. Some channels available now in the analog lineup will be duplicated in the digital lineup as part of the regrouping.
Among the things that will be disrupted by the shuffle are parental controls and personalized features, like the channel that pops up when you turn the TV on and favorite channels. It wouldn't hurt to doublecheck scheduled DVR or VCR recordings.
Time Warner also serves northeast Wisconsin, and similar changes go into effect Oct. 6 in Marinette and Oct. 8 in the rest of the region.

If it doesn't include bringing back HDNet and HD Movies, which it appears it does not, then it is a disappointment.

Typical Time Warner. No one will use these groupings / categories. Or, so few people will use them that it doesn't make sense. Insight Cable in Indiana did this last year and spent a lot of money promoting this garbage. Seriously, it is just a repeat of all the channels they already have but grouped together more. If you notice they are pretty much grouped already. So you will see channels like MTV in two places, once in the first 100 and then again in the "music" category. Waste of time and money to do this and promote this. How about taking that same money and making my bill lower or getting us more HD channels? Isn't this just a marketing group that has to justify its existence? What no more commercials with Dumbo telling me the difference between Time Warner and satellite? AT&T, please help. Bring U-Verse to my area!

Makes sense to put all the HD under 1000. Use consistency and a tag on regular channels telling you where HD sister channel is would be cool.

Too bad they're doing this when all the new fall shows are starting. I don't have much confidence that my existing DVR schedule will keep working after this change.
