THE BALLAD OF EMMETT TILL
Renaissance Theaterworks presents THE BALLAD OF EMMETT TILL by Ifa Bayeza, Directed by Marti Gobel October 23th-November 15th, 2015. In the summer of 1955, fourteen year-old Emmett Till made the journey from Chicago, Illinois to Money, Mississippi, deep in the Jim Crow/Segregated South. Two weeks later, his broken and mutilated body was discovered in the Tallahatchie River. Shock and outrage over Till's kidnapping and brutal murder ignited the Civil Rights Movement and changed our country forever. Using contemporary prose, jazz and gospel music, Bayeza has written a celebration of Emmett Till's life and a tribute to his legacy in American History.
Fiery and impetuous? Calm and deliberate? Which alter ego will you don for this evening of masquerading revelry in a fascinating concert featuring a single performer? Ensemble member and 2015 Grammy award winning pianist Cory Smythe will take the stage at the Broadway Theatre Center and seamlessly connect the dots between the music of Robert Schumann, John Zorn, Sciarrino, and Smythe’s own original pieces and improvisations. The party won’t stop with the final cadenza! Join us afterwards in the bar and bistro for fabulous food, drinks, and a costume contest to crown the King and Queen of the Night.

CENSORED ON FINAL APPROACH
Renaissance Theaterworks presents CENSORED ON FINAL APPROACH by local playwright Phylis Ravel, Directed by Leda Hoffmann, April 1-24th, 2015. During WWII, an elite group of female pilots became pioneers, heroes, and role models. They were the Women Air Force Service Pilots; the first American women to fly military aircraft. Their biggest battles were fought on the ground; the women struggled daily with sexual harassment, discrimination, and sabotage. Based on real incidents, the play tells the story of four of these young women, and the cost of their commitment and patriotism.
