Cuban Experience Workshop

FREE and Open to the Public After touring the Experience Cuba exhibition join the Redline artists for a free workshop. The inspiration of repurposed objects and personal messages found in the Cuban book arts show provide an entry into exploring the poetics of materiality. Work with Redline resident artists who have completed a two-month collaborative study of Cuban book arts. Their work has led them on different paths of discovery through books. They will share their handbound personal narratives as well as simple bookbinding and collage techniques. Bring personal found items such as paper, cloth, old photos etc to add to the varied materials on hand in the DIY Station of the Experience Cuba show. Participants can explore personal connections to materials as they start to develop their own material poetry.

Vigía: Entre la palabra y la imagen/ Between the Word and the Image is a documentary presented in conjunction with the exhibition on view at RedLine Milwaukee, Experiencing Cuba: Artist Books of Ediciones Vigía and Photographs by Joseph Mougel. This film is one of four in a series of documentaries about the collective Ediciones Vigía directed by award winning filmmaker Juanamaría Cordones-Cook. Along with her interest in Ediciones Vigía, Cordones-Cook has also collected interviews of Afro-Hispanic intellectuals and footage related to the Afro-Romance Diaspora culture. Poeticas visual, another film in this series was screened at RedLine Milwaukee on Thursday, November 13. This exhibition is funded in part through a grant from the Milwaukee Arts Board and the Wisconsin Arts Board.
