Event Description
Juarez (1939) 132 min. - With Bette Davis, Paul Muni, Brian Aherne, Claude Rains, John Garfield, Gale Sondergaard, Donald Crisp, Gilbert Roland More of a historical pageant than a complete biography, this film is two stories in one. One about the great Mexican patriot, Benito Juarez, the other the tragic love story of Emperor Maximilian and Empress Carlotta. Napoleon III (a fantastic performance by Rains) sets up an empire in Mexico to recover French debts owed by the Mexicans. Juarez drives the French out of Mexico and ends the empire with the death of Maximilian. Elaborate production values and some location shooting make the film very authentic and one of Warner Brothers most expensive efforts. But, the best scene in the film is Carlotta (Davis) going mad in the Court of Napoleon III. FREE with General Admission to the Museum: $5 Adults/$3 Seniors, Veterans and Students/FREE Members and Active Military. Information: 414-278-8295
