Dogtopia, a daycare, boarding, grooming and spa service for dogs, will open in the former Sunseekers spot, 2420 E. Capitol Dr. in Shorewood. The projected opening is in the fall of 2018 by franchise owner Jorge Arciniegas. Village officials still will have to approve the final plan moving forward.

The space will include an open layout with playroom featuring rubber flooring to ease joints, prevent slipping and promote safer play. A state-of-the-art HVAC system will funnel air out of the building to ensure fresh air and webcam technology will allow pet parents to check on their dogs from anywhere, according to Shelley Parnell, the vice president of marketing for Dogtopia.

There are currently 68 Dogtopia locations in the U.S. and Canada with more slated to open this year.

"Dogtopia sets the industry standard among dog daycare’s three key benefits: education, exercise and safe socialization," says Parnell.
