It doesn't seem fair, but same-sex couples aren't as acknowledged, celebrated or privileged as hetero couples, even though many of them are just as committed.
In an effort to introduce some of Milwaukee's gay couples who are in healthy, long-term relationships, The United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay, 819 E. Silver Spring Dr., houses the exhibit "Shall not be recognized: Portraits of same-sex couples."
The collection features 30 black-and-white photographs of local, same-sex families, all of which have been together for a decade or longer, like Anne and Denise who pose with their infant son, and Gregory and Raymond who have been together for 25 years.
"Shall not be recognized" runs, aptly, until Feb. 14. It's open Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon. Please call (414) 964-2424 to confirm the gallery is open.
