A friend just told me her 5-year-old daughter lost a tooth. I was surprised to hear this. I have a 5-year-old and, for some reason, I thought the loosing of the teeth was still a couple years away. (A quick Google search told me that 5 is a little young to loose teeth, although it happens. Most kids lose their teeth around 6 or 7.)
My friend said she planned on playing the role of tooth fairy tonight and would leave a quarter in exchange for the tiny tooth. A quarter? Is that what the tooth fairy is still leaving these days? I got a quarter from the tooth fairy three decades ago, but then again, we are talking about a 5-year-old whereas I'm certain I was a little older when my baby teeth started getting wiggly.
I think $1 would be more appropriate, but now I'm curious what other parents are doling out these days. Anyone?

I think two dollars was the highest I ever got. Stickers and erasors can be fun too...I don't know. I think I lost my last tooth at 10 or 11, and I got a little more for it then.

Funny this should be talked about now...I needed this info about a month ago. We debated on what to do for our 5 year old. I talked to a neighbor and she told me that the talk of her daughter's class was that the tooth fairy brought $20 for each tooth to some of the kids in her class. Yikes...I don't think so..not in my house. I used to get a dime or a quarter. We settled on $5 for the first tooth, and $1 for each additional. Sounds fair to me..

A friend of mine leaves a sandwich under or near the pillow, which I think is quite funny.

Ben, That quarter I got in 1980 I invested and earned an average of 8%/year. Using that assumption, we come out to about $2.00.

We've done a dollar (in coins, of course).
