Ty has a face that's easy to love and a demeanor that demands a lively owner. He's a 2-year-old Brittany mix.
Consistent training and positive reinforcement will work wonders for Ty. So will frequent walks -- or runs -- and exercise. And if you tire him out enough, he might just crash out and cuddle with you. As a bonus, his fur is super-soft. Ty is a happy, kind and affectionate dog and really just wants to go home.
Wondering why all my featured dogs have been so high-energy lately? Well, quite honestly, it's not so hard to find a home for a lazy lab, snuggly pug or soft-spoken spaniel. But dogs with ample energy often take longer to adopt out because fewer people are willing to invest time in daily walks, games of fetch and training exercises.
Active pups can be so joyful and inspiring. Plus, their entertaining antics will be endless sources for great stories and good laughs. Just ask yourself: Would you lose your cool if you came home to a half-eaten potted plant and toilet paper strewn up and down the stairs? Or would you merely laugh at the dog looking at you with a glimmer in his eye? As I like to say, better busy than bored.
By the way, the Wisconsin Humane Society wants OMC readers to know that Phantom and Roger (recent OnMilwaukee.com Pets of the Week) are both doing great. Phantom's adopters say he curls up to nap with them and has transformed into a totally calm dog. Phantom has a brother to play with during the day, too, who loves his new pal.
As far as Roger, he "was a little monster when we first brought him home," reported his new mum (in an endearing tone), so they renamed him Herman. As in Herman Munster. Little Herman has since adjusted and plays nicely with his older sister and tries really hard to please his new guardians.
