Slightly surprised by new Weebles' exhibit As soon as I got over the fact actual Weebles - you know, the roly-poly toy that wobbles but doesn't fall down - were not a part of the new exhibit at the Betty Brinn Children's Museum, "Weebles Coast To Coast," I really enjoyed the time I spent there with my kids. |

Breakfast on the farm Yes, I grew up in Wisconsin. But no, for some reason, I had never heard of the concept of "breakfast on the farm." Until this weekend, that is, when my family and I took the short drive to West Bend on Saturday to a not-so-intimate affair at the Homestead Acres. In my mind's eye, I expected a few dozen people to gather for pancake and eggs in a field. In reality, we were one of hundreds (and maybe more) assembled for a breakfast operation of enormous scale. |

Naming kids When picking my sons' names it was a huge and exciting undertaking for me. I thought about it constantly. I made lists. I read books. I scoured movie credits, indexes and researched my family history for unique names. I even made up a few.

Do as I say, not as I did Being a parent triggers the most unlikely rage buttons. My stepdaughter and I had a lovely "girl's night" last weekend. As we were jabbering away about school, friends and boys I noticed a pinker than usual glow to her skin and a delicate, slim porcelain line extending from the outer corner of her eye to her temple. My heart began to palpitate. My gorgeous stepdaughter, with a flawless, fair, doll-like complexion, was compromising her health and beauty by baking in a tanning bed. |
