I'm back in the saddle after a nice week of vacation. So, I feel a need to get a few (OK, seven) items off my chest. Please enjoy.
Best weekend ever? The past weekend, with its perfect weather and abundance of events, ranked very high in my list of best weekends ever. From the Circus Parade to Bastille Days to the Dodgers presence at Miller Park, Milwaukee was buzzing, alive and shining.
One quick Circus Parade note: I loved that Senator Herb Kohl walked much of the parade route, with jeans, a polo and his "standard" Bucks cap.
Downtown Quiznos closed: I've never really understood Quiznos. It just doesn't work for me. I'm guessing I share this sentiment with many since its closed its Downtown spot at 233 E. Wisconsin Ave.
HDTV: Wow. Why did I wait so long? A quick follow up on my May 8 blog. Thanks to a very generous birthday gift from my parents, the Shermans are the owners of a new Samsung TV. Didn't go overboard, 37 inch, but it's simply amazing with the new HD box from Time Warner Cable. Why, though, don't they include an HDMI cable? I know, cost. Anyway, if you're on the fence and wondering if you too should buy that new TV -- screw it, buy one, it's worth the investment.
A 15-year-old comments on media: I loved this post, and I provide free of commentary (for now).
The Cardinals' 'staches: In a show of team spirit and unity, the Cardinals' starting rotation (and other players) donned mustaches last week. I loved it, but still can't stand those pesky St. Louis Cardinals.
Milwaukee needs a Bunyan's: I spent five days in the greater Minocqua area this past week, and it presented me with another chance to chow down at Paul Bunyan's Restaurant on Hwy. 51. I love this place. Sure, it's a bit of a tourist trap, but it's all-you-can-eat big eats! Family-style breakfast with flapjacks, sausage, ham, scrambled eggs from the grill, fried potatoes and more. Bring it on. There's a second Bunyan's in the Dells, and I know that a Milwaukee location probably wouldn't work, but I can dream. Why not one in the Park East? I'd go. paulbunyans.com

@High_Life_Man, I did see a lot of ComedySportz people walking around Downtown. Very cool. Ran out of time, but would have loved to attend some of the events. Great for Milwaukee, indeed.

ComedySportz also had it's 25th anniversary this past weekend. Hundreds of CSz'rs from around the country were in town to provide a hilarious and memorable weekend. The mayor opened the weekend with a pretty hilarious speech. I wish it could have been covered on OnM. Bastille Days was great. Anyone who went to see Tab Benoit would agree. Always buy a bigger tv than you think you'll need. And don't spend $100s on an HDMI cable from Best Buy or some local store, go to: www.bluejeanscable.com Unless you're an A/V ninja, you'll never know the difference and you'll save a ton of money.

You're right, Quizno's is kinda weird, a true sub sandwich anomaly. Jimmy Johns is the undisputed ruler of the sub empire. Wouldn't it have been cool to have Tom Jones vs. Ernest Borgnine in the Jimmy Johns sub eating contest this past weekend?? Sumpin' to tell yer grandkids about...

Paul Bunyan's belongs in Milwaukee about as much as Decibel belongs in Bayfield. Fish...out...of...water.
