Every week in 2015, OnMilwaukee.com and local design company Too Much Metal join forces to introduce the latest member of the Milwaukee All-Stars – a team of unfamiliar winners living in the city who consistently and diligently make it shine. Each week, a new member will join the team – based on your recommendations – and at the end of the year all will come together in a Rally of the Raddest Milwaukeeans. We're not sure what that means quite yet, so for now, meet …

Angela Walker

Earlier this week, OnMilwaukee.com posted an article featuring 13 Milwaukeeans working to improve the city’s social and economic inequalities.

Angela Walker, who was born and raised in Milwaukee, was one of the people highlighted in the article, in part, because of her commitment to activism and her work at Wisconsin Jobs Now.

She also served as a bus driver for 14 years and ran for sheriff against David Clarke, receiving an impressive 67,000 votes. Angela is engaged in her community, a huge supporter of libraries and works tirelessly to promote public education, fair law enforcement and more.

"Everyday people who resist injustice where they are and believe in the dignity of all communities are my inspiration," she says.

Angela is truly an agent of change and here are a few interesting things about her.

OnMilwaukee.com / Too Much Metal: How long have you been an activist?

Angela Walker: I think I've been an activist most of my life. For me, that means agitating folks to care about what's happening around them, and encouraging them to step into their power.

OMC / TMM: You were a bus driver for 14 years. What did you like about the job?

AW: My favorite part of driving a bus is maneuvering the bus itself. It never gets old.

OMC: What’s your favorite time of year in Milwaukee?

AW: My favorite Milwaukee event is Garfield Days. I love my folks and roasted corn is everything!

OMC / TMM: What’s your favorite or least favorite Milwaukee smell?

AW: My favorite smell in Milwaukee is the coffee beans being roasted at Colectivo in Riverwest.

OMC / TMM: What is your wish for Milwaukee?

AW: I hope and believe that all communities in this city will have the resources to be whole and healthy.

OMC / TMM: What’s your guilty pleasure?

AW: My guilty pleasure is and has always been vampire novels.

OMC / TMM: Who would you like to high five someday?

AW: Well, my favorite Milwaukeean was my grandfather. I'd hug him again if I could.
