The Milwaukee Fire Department and On Purpose Journey Inc., along with representatives from other protective service agencies in the area, will hold an event on Tuesday, Aug. 2 to reveal the 2016 We Are One logo and give further information about Sept. 11 events planned for this year's 15th anniversary of the 2001 attacks.

The We Are One logo will be imprinted on T-shirts and challenge coins. The event will be held at 2:30 p.m. at MFD Engine House 2, 755 N. James Lovell St.

On Purpose Journey, Inc. is a local nonprofit to support, honor and promote unity between those who serve, including firefighters and emergency medical services, law enforcement, members of the military and veterans. They will be involved in several Sept. 11 events this year.

Events they are involved in, along with MFD and other protective service agencies include:

Books for Bravery Book Deliveries

On Sept. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Books for Bravery will deliver copies of the award-winning book "The Little White Truck With the Big Mission" to fifth graders at multiple schools in the Milwaukee area. Each fifth grader will receive their own copy of the book, which details the journey of a Vietnam vet and retired MFD battalion chief who traveled to New York in 2011 to bring back a piece of steel from the fallen World Trade Center.

Events on Sunday, Sept. 11

  • 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. – Collaborative Salute to Service 9/11 5K. Begins and ends near War Memorial Center
  • 2:30 p.m.-4 p.m. – Protective Services Parade through downtown Milwaukee, ending at the War Memorial Center
  • 4:30 p.m.-5 p.m. – Leap-X Special Forces Parachute Team jumping in and landing near the event to kick-off Standing for the Fallen at the War Memorial Center
  • 5 p.m.-9 p.m. – Standing for the Fallen at the War Memorial Center
