Earlier today, the Milwaukee Common Council voted 8-5 in favor of legalizing the raising of live chickens in private homes. With a $35 permit, Milwaukee families and individuals can have up to four chickens in their yards.

Ald. Nik Kovac sponsored the bill, the second half of an ordinance that made beekeeping legal in Milwaukee last spring.
