Well, you can't have this many chickens in your yard. But you can have four.

Yard chickens now legal in Milwaukee

Earlier today, the Milwaukee Common Council voted 8-5 in favor of legalizing the raising of live chickens in private homes. With a $35 permit, Milwaukee families and individuals can have up to four chickens in their yards.

Ald. Nik Kovac sponsored the bill, the second half of an ordinance that made beekeeping legal in Milwaukee last spring.

Boy, what a lot of negativity! Chickens are the most innocuous of neighbors! Hens are quiet, pretty, and produce eggs. They eat bugs and meat and vegetable waste from the dinner table! They supply us with fertilizer for the garden. A few hens are not even comparable to flocks of hundreds that are noisy and smelly. You wouldn't want 100 kittens in a yard but two or three are fine; same with hens. Chill, people!

I don't care as long as they are not my neighbors. The last thing I want to see is chickens running around.

Seems to me the city council just made it easier to set up cock-fights in the city of Milwaukee.

I know people who are looking to do this that have absolutely NO CLUE about raising or taking care of chickens. I see "chicken rescue" organizations happening in the near future.
