It's mid-January, and I still have my Christmas tree twinkling away in my living room. It's a fake tree, so I don't have to worry about it being a fire hazard, however, I'm starting to think it's time for the thing to come down. Not because I'm sick of looking at it -- it's silver and twinkly and pretty adorable -- but I don't want to overdo it, either. Nobody wants to see icicle lights on Memorial Day.

In general, I'm not the best follower of rules, and yet I am curious what the "rules" are for taking down holiday decorations. I asked a few friends this week, and it turns out, people have pretty adamant opinions. One friend said Jan. 2 is ideal. Another said by Epiphany (Jan. 6) and another friend insisted anytime in the month of January is cool.

I think I'll take down the tree this weekend, but keep the blinking stars strung across my porch roof for another week or two. I just don't want to be like the house with the ice-filled plastic baby pool still in the front yard in February.

According to the Bible, Christmas decorations should come down on Super Bowl Sunday.

i agree--christmas music on radio stations should start before thanksgiving but not day after halloween. and stations should play the music through new years day or weekenf following new years day if new years day is late in its week. there ARE 12 days of christmas--not 1 day of christmas. a HUGE let down-no christmas music after dec. 25--plus, radio stations keep repeating the SAME versions of songs and do not play enough variety. most are vocals. where is the symphony pops music? great european/american orchestras must have christmas type music recorded. radio stations MUST increase their repertory of christmas music. gets boreing hearing the same versions over and over. and some of the versions are not well performed.

with january days dark by 4:30 pm i feel christmas outside decorations should be up and lit till the end of january. and taken down in february as soon as weather allows. my aftificial tree is still up in my apartment although i have packed away my navitity set and my santa collection. strictly winter type decorations as snowmen, horse/carriages stay uo, too.

X-mas decor is started immediately after Halloween. This includes X-mas music on the radio. Isn't that a little early?? And then the day after X-mas, no songs, nothing. Like it is OVER!! Why not enjoy the season as it is meant to be?? AFTER Thanksgiving put UP and after Superbowl take DOWN?? I mean, we celebrate the New Year the month of January, don't we??
