On Monday, Dec. 16 Colectivo Coffee will begin selling many of its original Alterra Coffee signs, letters and cafe designed images via OnMilwaukee.com and Okanjo.

The signs and letters from its Alterra Coffee days have meaning to many who enjoy Milwaukee-based Colectivo Coffee.

Of course, this July Alterra Coffee Roasters announced that it was changing its name to Colectivo Coffee.  This came after a successful three-year relationship with Mars Drinks, a subsidiary of Mars, Inc. The Alterra name went global, but the company remained and remains very local and committed.

Okanjo is a local, social ecommerce company in Milwaukee, and under its new partnership with OnMilwaukee.com, Colectivo Coffee and the Hunger Task Force will auction and sell these historic signs that used to hang and stand in cafes around the greater Milwaukee area.  Okanjo powers OnMilwaukee.com's new Shop Local marketplace section.

Sales and auctions begin December 16 at 8 a.m. and end Dec. 23 at 8 p.m.

"We thought this was a fun way to celebrate our history with Milwaukee and help give back to a worthy cause within our community – especially this time of year," said Scott Schwebel, director of marketing at Colectivo.

The large (many are nearly six feet tall) exterior signs from all locations will be sold, but four are surely to be the most popular and will be up for auction.

    • The original Alterra at the Lake sign
    • The "light bulb" US Bank signs
    • The original Prospect location letters
    • Humboldt Roasting facility letters

Beginning bids and prices range from $99 to $500. Proceeds will benefit Hunger Task Force of Greater Milwaukee and the winners will have to pick up the signs.  Shipping is not available.

Joe and Janice Niedzialkowski and Jay Richardson are the minds and creative talent behind the signs.  You can learn more about them here.

Milwaukeeans and coffee and design fans everywhere are able to bid on and buy the signs and, in turn, help feed the hungry simply by going here.

Just bid and monitor and bid some more. Individuals that purchase Alterra signage agree that signage is for personal use only. Signs may not be used in a commercial or promotional manner.

All signs must be picked up before Jan. 15, 2014 at the cafe at the Humboldt Colectivo, 2999 N. Humboldt Blvd. between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
