Buy some plein air art at Beans

Did you miss this past Saturday's Tomato Romp on the East Side? If so, you missed a vibrant first-time fest (proudly sponsored by OMC, by the way) that featured shopping, a big bloody mary contest, a rompin' tomato fight and an amazing display of two-hour "plein air" (working outdoors) art from 13 locals.

Luckily for you, these 13 pieces of original art (all Milwaukee scenes) are on display and for sale via silent auction at Beans and Barley, 1901 E. North Ave.

So, stop in, take a look (they are located on the wall just behind the lunch counter) ask a register cashier or a manager for the auction book and place a bid!

A piece of East Side art history just might go home with you. Hurry, though, as the auction ends Oct. 2.

On my many visits to the east side, I`ve driven past the intersection of Weil and Locust. I`ve noticed a pizzeria there before, but a few months ago, I noticed a name change. Antonio "Tony" Balsamo opened Antonio`s Pizza, 1000 E. Locust St., around two months ago. I decided to stop in and see if he had the perfect pizza for me.

As we speak, on the tip of the triangle at North Avenue and Ivanhoe Place, in front of Hooligan`s, Mayor Tom Barrett, Ald. Nik Kovac and Jim Plaisted, of the East Side Business Improvement District, are announcing a new partnership with Zipcar that will put a Zipcar station in the parking lot behind the U.S. Bank on Farwell and North.

Milwaukee made yet another national list today as it was named one of America`s top 12 "ArtPlaces" today by ArtPlace, a collaboration of 13 leading national and regional foundations, eight federal agencies including the National Endowment for the Arts, and six of the nation`s largest banks.
