Any thoughts on the Canon Rebel? |

I am in the process of researching decent cameras. I am done with the $250 point-and-shoot digital camera and want to upgrade to something that takes better photos. In a nutshell, I want affordable, easy-to-use and high quality.
So, what am I looking for?
I really despise researching items, whether it's cars, washing machines or cameras. I wish someone could just tell me what I want and where to sign and be done with it. In the meantime, I slog through reviews and Web sites and eBay postings.
So, readers, what your thoughts are on the $500-$1,000 camera? Should I go with a Nikon? A Canon? Definitely an SLR or not necessarily?
Ugh. All of this, just to say "cheese."

$1000 for a camera? Who knew OnMilwaukee.com writers made so much bank. On a side note, where are the writers of color on this website?

A Canon(my preference) or Nikon DSLR is the only way to go for two simple reasons: 1. you can change the lenses. 2. You actually see what you are shooting through a lens via mirrors... its not via a video feed like all the point and shoot cameras. With the price point of the Canon Digital Rebel and the similar Nikon DSLR cameras so close to point and shoots, why wouldnt you get a DSLR?

I LOVE my Rebel DSLR. I've sworn by Canon ever since purchasing my first film Rebel in college. Buydig.com and BHphotovideo.com are reputable camera sites to purchase from. I've had pretty good luck with non-canon lenses too, Sigma in particular.

Molly, Seeing that you are a bit of a hipster, you should get a Leica M9. It is pretty, trendy, overpriced, and fellow hipsters will recognize it and shower you with compliments about it! You can thank me later.
