Eyeliner, coffee, midwifery, chocolate and more in this week's edition of OnMilwaukee.com recommends...
Kohler Chocolates chocolate eggs – Let's face it, the whole candy at Easter thing is, for many of us, just an excuse to eat good chocolate. So, if good chocolate is what you crave, check out Kohler's Craverie, where chocolate is king. This year, you can get a nine-piece assortment of gourmet chocolate eggs at the Craverie filled with the likes of cognac ganache, strawberries and cream ganache, peanut butter ganache and cassis pate de fruit – which tastes like PB&J for adults – and my favorite, the malted milk ganache. The eggs are pretty to look at but even more beautiful to savor with your taste buds. Available in Milwaukee at Indulge, Sendik's, Grasch, Winkie's, Wisconsin Cheese Mart and Cafe Benelux market. – Bobby Tanzilo
Tarte smolderEYES Amazonian clay waterproof liner – If I had only one cosmetic to take with me into exile on a desert island, I would chuck the sunscreen, risk the burn and take this eyeliner instead. Do I know if it's really made from Amazonian clay? No. Do I know that it rolls on smoothly, stays on all day, comes in an amazing array of colors, and is a serious steal for only $22? Yes, yes, yes and yes. Another make-up find courtesy of my mother, I've got this eyeliner in plum and bronze and I wear it almost every day. I've had the same stick for months – I think I'll have to throw it out for being old before it actually runs out. It love the texture of it - it's meant to be eyeliner but you can easily take a brush (or the built-in smudger) and smudge it around your lid to give it a more dramatic flair. And for those mornings when you just don't feel like spending more than ten seconds in front of the mirror, it's so easy. – Colleen Jurkiewcz
Alterra Coffee Roasters' "Coffee" T-shirt- I love my simple "Coffee, Milwaukee, Wisc." from Alterra. It fits fits well, promotes my city and looks damn good. Buy one today at any of the area Alterra cafes. – Jeff Sherman
"Witches, Midwives and Nurses" – This might not be saying much considering it's only mid-March, but this book is (so far) my favorite read of 2013. Originally published in 1973 by The Feminist Press, it's fascinating how relevant it remains today as this country attempts to shift the health care system. Be sure to pick up the new edition with a forward by the writers Barbara Ehrenreich and Deirdre English who reflect on their original writing. This quick read reminds that women once dominated the healing industry but lost access and power over time. And the detailed description of medical practices throughout history once the guys took over will leave you laughing, crying and absolutely grossed out. Solidarity, ladies. – Molly Snyder
