Feeling a bit orange this weekend?  You should as it's the first official weekend of fall.  Although, judging by the volume of events, it's seemingly still summer in Milwaukee.

As a member of the Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin board, I felt I needed to tell you about those orange lights around town.  You see, the organization has partnered with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Marquette University, Majic Enterprises, the Mitchell Park domes, GE Healthcare, U.S. Bank and the Brewers Community Foundation to shed some light on the issue of hunger during September, which is Hunger Action Month.

The Marquette Interchange, the Mitchell Park Domes, Marquette University’s Cudahy Hall, U.S. Bank’s observation deck and GE Healthcare’s globe in the Wauwatosa Research Park are all lit orange beginning at dusk and will remain lit at night through Saturday, Sept. 21, the day of the 11th annual Miles for Meals 5K run/2-mile walk at Veterans Park.

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s food bank, 1700 W. Fond du Lac Ave., also is lit orange at night with donated lighting from Majic Enterprises.

Miller Park was also glowing orange Wednesday night after the Brewers vs. Cubs game.

Orange is the color of hunger. You'll also see pink this weekend, as it's the Komen Race for the Cure

"Light Up Hunger is an important initiative that brings much needed awareness to our mission, feeding Wisconsin’s hungry. Hunger awareness starts with a color, but it ends with a solution," said Bonnie Bellehumeur, president of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.

Hunger Action Month provides opportunities to raise awareness about hunger throughout the month of September.
