Locally owned and operated Pete’s Fruit Market has announced plans for a new store in the Bronzeville neighborhood at the heart of the Historic King Drive Business Improvement District.

The proposed 13,700-square foot market would be located on the northwest corner of King Drive and North Avenue.

"The announcement by Pete’s Fruit Market is the positive end result of the collaborative efforts of neighbors, city officials, and of the private sector, all working together to bring in ab store operator that would provide a great fit – and fulfill a true need – for the surrounding neighborhood," says Ald. Milele A. Coggs, who has pushed back efforts in recent years to open a dollar store at the location.

The project will be developed by Vangard Group with the assistance of contractor JCP Construction.

Pete's Fruit Market also operates a location at 1400 S. Union St. on Milwaukee's near South Side.
