The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works (DPW) will again host a one day only, first come first served compost bin and rain barrel sale on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Wilson Recreation Senior Center parking lot, 2601 W. Howard Ave. The event will take place rain or shine, and is not restricted to City of Milwaukee residents.

A limited number of FreeGarden EARTH compost bins and FreeGarden RAIN rain barrels will be available for $50 and $60, respectively. Kitchen scrap pails ($5), compost aerators ($10) and compost thermometers ($10) will also be available for purchase.

This year, pre-orders for a bin and/or barrel are available. The deadline to pre-order is Sunday, May 29. Pre-order at enviroworld.us/milwaukeeCash, checks, VISA, MasterCard and Discover will be accepted.

"Composting helps reduce solid waste and saves Milwaukee taxpayers money by conserving landfill space and avoided disposal costs," said Mayor Tom Barrett. "In the City of Milwaukee, we are serious about sustainability – the more residents commit to green behaviors such as recycling and composting, the more we can move Milwaukee towards our goal of reaching 40 percent landfill diversion."
