Peter Litzau grew up on Milwaukee's East Side on Shepard Avenue during the 1970s and '80s before leaving for college. After graduating college, he lived again on the East Side in the early '90s and worked as a server at Mader's before moving to Maryland to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Litzau currently resides in Kentucky, but his love and nostalgia for Milwaukee has not waned. Earlier this year he launched Remember The Tees, a T-shirt company commemorating vintage venues that are now defunct.
"The places we chose were cultural institutions loaded with stories," he says. "Some places we chose because we loved them growing up, and some are farther in the past with great stories."
T-shirt designs include Farrell's, Frenchy's, Oriental Pharmacy's menus, Pig 'N Whistle, Century Hall, Hayek's Pharmacy and more. Remember the Tees adds new designs weekly and are available in men's and women's versions that sell for $26 each. All styles are made in the U.S.
"We are reaching people like us that have nostalgia for these venues and enjoy wearing a comfy tee," he says. "People can relive parts of Milwaukee's history with these tees, and we like that."
