Strehlow's True Value Hardware, long a Bay View institution at 2675 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., will close in coming weeks. Owner Jim Lehmann has sold the property to Joe Dean and Tag Grotelueschen, who run the tavern at Club Garibaldi, 2501 S. Superior St.
Lehmann said there has been a hardware store in the building's retail space for approximately 102 years.
According to Grotelueschen, he and his partner plan to rent the space to retail or for office space, but have, for the moment, ruled out a bar or restaurant.
"It's still sort of undecided at the moment, but it'll either be retail or commercial office space. We thought about (a bar or restaurant) but then thought better of it."
