After eight years, the Verlo Mattress Factory Store at 201 N. Water St. in the Third Ward will close at the end of January.
Headquartered in Fort Atkinson, Verlo Mattress Factory Stores is the nation's largest "Craftsman-Direct" mattress retailer, and still has seven additional locations in the Milwaukee-area.
In fact, a new Verlo Mattress Factory Store in Brookfield, 13735 W. Capitol Dr., celebrates its grand opening this weekend.
The Green Bay Packers' James Jones makes an appearance on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 1 to 2 p.m., and the Reggie White Sleep Foundation throughout the weekend will conduct free sleep apnea screenings.
In addition, Verlo offers special deals and a drawing for a special Verlo 50th anniversary bed.
The new 3,400-sq. ft. showroom is owned by franchise operators Greg Gardetto and Mike Murphy. The co-owners also have Verlo stores in the greater Milwaukee area, Racine and Kenosha.

Not a big surprise. I am sure the rent on that place was very high and a mattress store always seemed out of place there. However I will miss waving to the mattress mascot. I always wanted to run up to him, give him a hug and whisper in his ear that I'm a bed wetter.
