In 2012, Steph Davies opened The Waxwing, a local art and handmade gifts boutique at 4415 N. Oakland Ave. in Shorewood.

Recently, Davies learned that her lease would not be renewed because landlord Nat Davauer plans to use the space to expand his business, Draft and Vessel, located next door.

As a thank you to customers, artists and the community, Davies will throw a farewell bash on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 5 to 10 p.m. The shop will be open regular hours until then.

Davies is not sure what her next professional step will be, but she plans to spend more time on her artwork and with her family.

"I can’t thank everyone enough for their patronage and support over the past three years," says Davies. "You have helped me make what was once just an idea blossom into an amazing creative space that has been more successful and more inspiring than I ever could have imagined."
