Lick 'em: Pickle-flavored candy canes
Friday, Nov. 14 is National Pickle Day and I came across these curious canes while searching for pickle-related items for the upcoming "pickle party" I'm having with my kids this weekend. (Hey, I know "pickle party" sounds an awful lot like "sausage party" but my kids are young and don't think like that yet.) These are Amazon "add on" items, so you have to spend at least $25 to buy them for $6.62 a box. I plan to do some holiday shopping soon and get these, too, even though they won't arrive in time for National Pickle Day or our pickle party. (Ahem.) And no, they aren't kosher. -- Molly Snyder

Check it: Brinkmann Propane Tank Gauge
At just $13, a propane tank gauge is such a no-brainer. After three separate incidents of running out of gas halfway into grilling burgers, I splurged on this simple device. Grill anxiety gone. The gauge does exactly what it says it does, and installs in about a minute without any tools. It’s compatible with propane tanks up to 40 pounds. Buy this, and you’ll always know if you have enough gas before you start to grill dinner. Enough said. -- Andy Tarnoff

Drink it: Cinnamon coffee from Stone Creek Coffee
My aunt Julie introduced me to Stone Creek Coffee's cinnamon coffee a few years back on Thanksgiving and it was instant love. Now I always make sure to get a few bags around the holidays -- for myself as well as gifts. The slightly sweet coffee is their Sinay Neves Brazil blended with cinnamon, cloves and sugar. You can only purchase the coffee ground -- not beans -- as it is blended with those flavors. It tastes like fall in a cup! -- Carolynn Buser

Read it: "Hello Kitty, Hello 40."
I've loved Hello Kitty since I was a kid and to this day find myself picking up little trinkets with her round, cute face. That famous mouthless face has also appeared on toasters, airplanes and been encrusted with diamonds. Now, four decades after she was 'born," this hardcover book pays tribute to the feline pop icon (I know recently articles floated around social media that she was a girl, not a cat, but I don't buy it) and features 40 stories (plus one for good luck) by different artists from around the world. It's a meow-valous way to celebrate everyone's favorite hairbow-festooned, cartoon cat. -- Molly Snyder

Work It: Dell laptop
Commuting by bus, bike, or foot, I carry my laptop all the time. My (very) aging Toshiba Satellite has served me well, but hucking the 7 lb. beast around the city has gotten old. I want a an ultrabook and don't share Andy's love for Apple products. Ultrabooks (very light, portable laptops) are fairly common; the curve ball is that I need a Linux-compatible machine. I can get Linux running on all kinds of hardware, but I'd like to maximize compatibility out of the box so I don't have to put in hours getting the network card or media buttons to work. Enter Dell's XPS 13 Developer Edition.  The Dell still rings a little cheap for me (Dude!), but I ordered a few Vostro laptops for our sales staff a few years ago and they're still in great shape. The XPS 13 is only 0.7" tall and weighs in at 3.03 lbs. The top of the line version comes with an i7 processor, 8GB of memory, and a 256G SSD hard drive. As for compatibility, it ships with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS already installed with full hardware support. It's obviously gunning for the MacBook Air in form and function, and goes toe-to-toe with it across the board. It's light, powerful, and doesn't lock me into Apple's closed-system garbage barge. Dude, I'm getting a Dell. -- Nick Barth
