Briggs & Stratton has been nominated for a Shorty Award for best Facebook Contest.

Briggs & Stratton nominated for national digital media award

As the world of digital media has expanded during the last 10 years, the ways for individuals or businesses to get noticed have expanded ten-fold. The true winners are the ones that are able to go from getting noticed to being remembered when it counts most – at the time of purchase.

The Shorty Awards, which recognize the efforts of the notable on social media, have released the list of nominees in such categories as Best Branded Mobile App to Best Use of Social Media for Travel. The awards that will be given out on April 7 will shine the spotlight on some of the top campaigns delivered in 2013 on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and other platforms.

Although, it isn't a good measure if the Hot Pockets "You Got What I Eat" campaign was more effective than "Game of Thrones" on Tumblr … it is good to see who is using digital media to grow greater awareness.

Briggs & Stratton received a nomination for Best Facebook Contest with its Mower Mouth Video contest. The local engine maker used Facebook to ask for submissions showing how loud and obnoxious lawn mowers can be. Entries came in through Instagram and YouTube vying for a $5,000 prize.

HEATH ISSUES: WISN-TV Ch. 12 was recently recognized by the National Association of Broadcasters for hosting a health care coverage hotline.

Working with the Milwaukee Enrollment Network, the ABC affiliate fielded calls for four solid hours to assist viewers with questions about health care changes due to the new Affordable Care Act.

"We want to be a resource to our viewers, provide them with an opportunity to clear any confusion on this complex subject," WISN's News Director Chris Gregg said. The station will hold another hotline on Thursday.

STUFF THE TRUCK: Boston Store announced it will host a "Stuff the Truck" event with its 2014 Goodwill Sale from March 13 to 29.

For each item donated, customers will receive a coupon up to 25 percent off regular and sale items, which can be used at any Boston Store. Donations are then sold at local Goodwill stores.

To kick off the sale, the Boston Store at Brookfield Square will host a "Stuff the Truck" event starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday. WITI-TV Fox 6 will be on hand to support the effort.

ANOTHER SEASON: Animal Planet's "Pit Bulls and Parolees" has been scheduled for a sixth season that will begin later this year.

The producers of the show have followed Tia Torres for five seasons as she has worked to keep Villalobos, the largest pit bull rescue in the U.S., alive. Torres has rebuilt her rescue and her life in New Orleans, and Animal Planet will bring viewers yet another emotional season trying save two of society's most judged members – pit bulls and parolees.

The show's fifth season was a cable hit among viewers, drawing in an audience of 1 million. One episode, "From the Shadows" pulled in 409,000 viewers among the key women age 25 to 54 demographic.
