WTMJ-AM 620 benefited from the Green Bay Packers' postseason, nabbing first place in the area ratings for January.

Its 10.9 score was enough to topple usual monthly leader, WMIL-FM, which gathered a 9.8 for the first month of 2015.

Beyond a glimpse at the new market leader, those of you who read through the whole list will notice more stations are here than there has been. WKLH-FM 96.5 and WHQG-FM 102.9 are finally on the rankings, with each at 4.5.

There’s some history here, as the Milwaukee radio stations with two of the strongest morning shows in the market, are owned by Saga Communications. Saga, in the last years of Arbitron, decided not to pay for its full package of ratings services.

That meant Saga stations in the market here and elsewhere did not appear on the monthly ranking reports. That also meant Saga’s sales staffers could not use the rankings to share with advertisers where their offerings fell next to its peers on the air. It’s a complicated past involving misuse and lawsuits. When Nielsen bought Arbitron a few years ago, the lawsuits came with the package deal. Nielsen and Saga settled, and with that settlement meant an official inclusion in the rankings.

For those of us who follow such things, we are able to get a better picture of how each station is doing in drawing in listeners. But as I have said before, the ratings game in and of itself is flawed. The ratings and share numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt as a sampling and a mathematical equation is what determines the winners and losers here. But at least now, all the players are dealing with the same, flawed system.

FRIDAY NIGHT: The folks at Adult Swim are pulling together a special Friday night with the inclusion of "The Jack and Triumph Show." The plot revolves around Jack (played by Jack McBrayer of "30 Rock" and "Wreck It Ralph") and Triumph (the insult comic dog) that starred together in a fictional, Lassie-like show in the ‘80s and ‘90s.

After that show was canceled, the pair found dark days. Now, 15-years later, Jack is self-sufficient, happy and in a life away from show business. Triumph slogs his way back into Jack’s life. Hilarity ensues. The show airs around 10:30 p.m. each Friday.
