If you are a Time Warner Cable subscriber in this area or up in the Green Bay market, then you know about the local sports coverage available on the outlet’s SportsChannel.

Dennis Krause, a veteran of the sports landscape in Milwaukee – and Wisconsin for that matter – hit a milestone on his sports studio show "The Roundtable" this week. The mainstay on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel aired its 2,000th episode Tuesday night.

The special episode showcased a video highlighting the past 2,000 episodes and featured WTMJ-AM 620’s Greg Matzek and Jeff Falconio, who have both appeared on the program many times over the past eight years.

Krause, a five-time Wisconsin Sportscaster of the Year, has hosted the series since it launched on Jan. 3, 2007. The show’s first guests were WTMJ-TV Ch. 4 Sports Director Lance Allan and former Marquette star and NBA veteran Tony Smith.

"It's been a lot of fun," said Krause. "I owe many thanks to all of my co-workers at Time Warner Cable SportsChannel, the guests and, most of all, the viewers."

The program has become so popular that each year, aspiring journalists compete in the "Talking the Talk" contest to win a chance to guest host the program with Krause. This fall, the SportsChannel also launched "Roundtable: Football Edition," which is led by Krause and former Packers LeRoy Butler and Gary Ellerson. The episode airing the day after each Packers game is dedicated to in-depth Packers coverage.

TOWN HALL: Milwaukee Public Television (MPTV) will be covering the national conference of the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS), including a Town Hall meeting scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday. With the theme "Fresh Water, Fresh Thinking in Urban Education," Milwaukee is a perfect backdrop for the five-day conference.

The Council of the Great City Schools 58th annual Fall Conference brings together school superintendents, board members and senior administrators from throughout the country in order to share best practices and reforms to advance urban education in America. The school leaders in attendance will exchange instructional and operational strategies in more than 80 sessions that will be offered during the conference.

MPTV will record the 90-minute Town Hall session in its entirety, and live stream it at mptv.org. MPTV is making the production available to other PBS affiliate stations across the U.S., and it will be archived and accessible for viewing after Friday on MPTV’s website.

The topic of the Town Hall meeting is "Testing in American Schools" and will be moderated by National Public Radio Education Correspondent Claudio Sanchez. Panelists include: Kayla Henderson, chancellor of the District of Columbia Public Schools; Valeria Silva, superintendent of the St. Paul (Minn.) Public Schools; Jumoke Hinton Hodge, board member of the Oakland (Calif.) Unified School District, and chair of the Council of the Great City Schools; Marc Tucker, president and CEO of the National Center on Education and the Economy; Chris Minnick, executive director of the Council of Chief State School Officers; and Jaxs Goldsmith, senior class president at Riverside University High School, Milwaukee.
