With Halloween just a little more than a month away, you'd think Netflix would spend October stocking up some horror flicks in time for scary movie season.

Yeah, you would think that ... but nah.

Save for "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House" (great title, guys), nabbing "American Horror Story: Hotel" and premiering the new season of "Black Mirror" (which is growingly less horror movie than documentary), those looking for some new disturbing spooks for the season will be more disturbed looking at Netflix's haunt-free October offerings. In fact, Netflix is even getting rid one of its best horror selections with "The Exorcist." A-plus timing!

The good news: Old additions like "The Guest" and "The Invitation" are both still stream-worthy – and scream-worthy. The better news: At least Netflix has an immense collection of classics headed for your TV sets and laptop screens this month, ranging from "Dazed and Confused" to "Breakfast at Tiffany's" to "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" to "Patton" and ... oh god ... OH GOD!

Indeed, near ... far ... wherever you are ... you'll be able to stream "Titanic." And now that song will be stuck in your head all day. You're welcome.

As is becoming expected with Netflix's monthly updates, the originals are where the excitement is – especially when it comes to docs in October. Director Ava DuVernay "13th," a sure-to-be-talked-about doc about the overwhelming racial element of America's mass incarceration problem, will hit screens on Oct. 7, and less than a week later, director Jonathan Demme ("Stop Making Sense") and his keen musical eye chronicle another concert event, this time for Justin Timberlake with "JT + The Tennessee Kids." And if you like docs with none of that pesky reality, "Mascots" – from mock doc master Christopher Guest, along with much of his usual gang in tow (and in hilarious mascot costumes) – will arrive on Oct. 13.

So while there might not be much scary headed to Netflix next month, there's no need to fear having nothing to watch some sleepy weekend night.

Here's the full list of what to look forward to next month – and what to stream before it's gone.

Matt Mueller Culture Editor

As much as it is a gigantic cliché to say that one has always had a passion for film, Matt Mueller has always had a passion for film. Whether it was bringing in the latest movie reviews for his first grade show-and-tell or writing film reviews for the St. Norbert College Times as a high school student, Matt is way too obsessed with movies for his own good.

When he's not writing about the latest blockbuster or talking much too glowingly about "Piranha 3D," Matt can probably be found watching literally any sport (minus cricket) or working at - get this - a local movie theater. Or watching a movie. Yeah, he's probably watching a movie.
